Santa Monica’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center has received the prestigious ‘Guardian of Excellence’ award.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, was honored recently as a 2016 “Guardian of Excellence Award®” winner by Press Ganey Associates Inc. for consistently providing a high-quality patient and family experience.

ucla-picThe award recognizes health care organizations that have ranked at or above the 95th percentile in patient satisfaction for four consecutive quarters. Press Ganey is a leading provider of satisfaction measurement, performance analytics and strategic solutions for healthcare organizations nationwide.

“This award acknowledges the outstanding work of our NICU staff and physicians,” said Stephanie Hines, RN, MSN, CCRN, director of the 16-bed unit. “Providing quality neonatal intensive care means not only taking care of precious newborns, but also caring for their parents and other family members. One of the things that parents appreciate most is our ‘primary nursing’ model that features a set team of nurses caring for baby and family together throughout the baby’s stay.”

David Bailey, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer at UCLA-Santa Monica, said this award is an aptly named tribute to the dedication of NICU doctors, nurses and other team members.

“We’re extremely proud of our caring staff members who earned this national recognition by being guardians of excellence for our tiniest and most vulnerable patients,” he said. “Our NICU staff is dedicated to delivering high-tech, high-touch care while recognizing and responding to the special needs of parents and families. That is what improving the ‘patient experience’ is all about.”

Presented annually, the awards honor Press Ganey clients who consistently sustain the highest levels of performance. UCLA-Santa Monica received the award in Orlando, Fla, Nov. 3.
