The 78th annual Academy Awards ceremonies to honor outstanding film achievements for 2005 will be held Sunday, March 5. at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by ABC Television beginning at 5 p.m. A two-hour red carpet arrivals show will begin at 3 p.m. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the City of Los Angeles announced that street closures in and around the Kodak Theatre began Monday. Hollywood Boulevard was closed between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive for a week on Monday for construction of press risers, fan bleachers and pre-show stages for the Academy’s red carpet. It will reopen next Tuesday. MTA subway trains will bypass the Hollywood & Highland station following the last regularly scheduled train on Saturday, March 4, to the first train after 6 a.m. on Monday morning, March 6.This week, some additional streets and sidewalks will be closed for various periods.Details of the closures and maps of affected areas are available from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and are posted on the Academy’s website, www.oscars.org/closures.
