Peace activists Cindy Sheehan and actor Martin Sheen (top photo) took part in a Catholic prayer service at Arlington West on Santa Monica beach last Sunday. Sheen led a rosary and Sheehan read names of US servicemen and women who have been killed in the war, as well as a prayer for the Iraqi people who have died in the war. For the service, Veterans for Peace, who create the memorial every Sunday, placed 17 flag draped coffins (bottom photo) in front of the field of white crosses and 17 blue crosses representing last week’s death toll. As of Sunday, a total of 2,296 Americans had died in Iraq.
