Microblading: A New Way to Obtain Perfect Brows

Eyebrows: Whether you like them perfectly arched or feathered and full, have the power to frame your face and transform your features. While there are a number of pencils, powers, gels and fast-growth products to get your brows just how you like them, there’s another option that delivers semi-permanent results, with minimal upkeep and grooming required. And I’m getting it done this week. It’s called Microblading.

Microblading is made up of small, precise strokes that mimic the effect of real hairs, using a special pen to individually draw on the strokes. The technique’s amazing natural finish has seen its popularity skyrocket in recent months.

When I was younger, I had beautiful, full eyebrows. Slowly, they started getting a little thinner, a little grayer. I dyed them once a month, filled them in with a pencil, bought the fast grow product for $250. They all worked to a point, but all were temporary.

Here’s what I learned from a visit to a local salon that offers microblading:

It’s perfect for those who want to fully reconstruct, define, cover gaps, or fill in over-plucked brows. Women (or men) who just want to add a slight arch are also great candidates, and the results are natural and undetectable.

The process involves using a microblading “pen” to draw on individual strokes one by one. It’s an extremely meticulous process that takes around two hours to complete.

During the first hour, the shape is drawn in with removable pencil. Then pigment is applied with a special tool that has a row of several fine needles to create thin hair like marks in the skin. The pigment is bladed just below the epidermis and the shallowest part of the dermis, making extremely fine, natural looking hair strokes. A natural result is achieved, as the hairs are bladed into the skin according to the natural hair growth direction.

The procedure costs between $700 and $800 and can last up to three years. Maybe a little pricey for eyebrows, but waking up every morning with perfect brows for me is totally worth it.
