Letter to the Editor: Closing the Santa Monica Airport

Dear Editor,
We living here near Santa Monica Airport want the airport closed and a new great park built as promised by the city. We want this done now, not in 12 years when we will all be old or dead.
The aviation industry (many who do not even live in the area) again trying to dupe the neighbors into thinking the airport is welcome and profitable.
We living here are sick and tired of the special interest groups hi jacking our city.
The airport needs to close. It has been a long time polluter, and only getting worse!
It puts residents in harms way and compromises our health and well being.
Ultra-fine leaded particles that cause cancer, a 45% increase in huge corporate jets, continually violated the “fly neighborly” program, late night flights, a compromised runway that is unsafe,
The airport has become a mini LAX, catering to the rich.
This airport affects many residents living in Palms, West LA ,Venice, Mar Vista, not just Santa Monica.
We voted on “LC” 2 years ago, that passed by a large margin. This gave Santa Monica Local Control.
What we have seen is the city of Santa Monica turn their heads, the city manager and city major continually disregard the residents wishes to CLOSE the airport.
The back door deal that was struck with the FAA is under legal investigation.
The Brown Act was violated.
Basically this airport needs to close and relive residents from noise, pollution and a right to a healthy life.
The airport is a BAD neighbor.
We will keep fighting this out right abuse by the city.
Thank you,
Ken Stevens
