Peek-A-Boo!

On Tuesday, August 8, at 12:06 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine night patrol in the area of the 600 block of Alta Avenue when they spotted an individual whom they recognized from numerous previous encounters that usually involved the use of narcotics. The officers stopped this man to have a chat and during the chat the officers expressed an interest in taking a peek inside the man’s backpack. This individual gave the officers permission to have a look inside the backpack and after a thorough examination of the backpack the officers discovered that it contained a large quantity of hypodermic needles in addition to a debit card belonging to a third party. The officers, having had their interest peaked by the results of the backpack search then searched the man’s pants and discovered that the man had secreted several baggies of methamphetamine in the seams of his jeans. This man also was found to have several outstanding warrants so the officers arrested this 41-year-old homeless man and he was later charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and the outstanding warrants. Bail was set at $61,000.

Bully.

On Tuesday, August 8, at 12:06 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that there had been a battery at Starbuck’s, located at 1900 Lincoln Blvd. The officers sped to the scene and as they were en route they were informed that the possible suspect in this case was standing outside the business. The officers arrived at the location and spotted the suspect whom they immediately detained while they conducted their investigations. The officers learned that the victim (a minor) had been walking eastbound in the 700 block of Pico Boulevard and when they were almost adjacent to the Starbuck’s Coffee Shop the female suspect had approached and for no reason whatsoever had punched the victim (a minor) and caused her to fall to the ground. At that moment the father grabbed the suspect and restrained her until the arrival of the officers. The officers arrested the suspect who refused to give any information about herself to the police and this Jane Doe was later charged with inflicting corporal injury upon a child. Bail was set at $50,000.

Self Service.

On Tuesday, August 8, at 12:06 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were flagged down by a security guard from the McDonald’s fast food restaurant, located at 1540 Second St. The security guard told the officers that he had just had cause to pepper spray a subject inside the restaurant and that this subject was now standing outside. The security guard pointed the subject out to the officers and told the officers that this individual had attempted to rob the restaurant. The officers detained this subject (now a suspect) while they investigated. The officers spoke with employees of McDonald’s and determined that the suspect had entered the restaurant and walked behind the counter and approached the cash registers. The suspect then lunged towards a register that was at that time open and attempted to steal cash from the register. An employee tried to pull this man away but failed in the attempt. It was at that moment that the security guard sprang into action and jumped behind the counter and pepper sprayed the would be thief. The suspect left the restaurant rubbing his eyes. Based upon the statements by the witnesses the officers arrested the suspect, aged 26 and homeless, and he was later charged with robbery and a violation of parole. Bail was not granted.

She Muscled In.

On Thursday, August 10, at 11:46 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that there had been an alleged assault with a deadly weapon in the 3000 block of Ocean Front Walk. The officers hastened to the scene and as they were en route they were told that a man had been stabbed and that the female suspect was standing nearby. The officers arrived at the location and immediately rendered emergency aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. After this man had been interviewed by the officers the paramedics whisked the victim off to a local hospital whereupon he received further treatment. The officers then went over to the female suspect and detained her while they investigated. The officers learned that the victim had been involved in an argument with the suspect’s husband in the beach parking lot and that when the suspect had returned and witnessed the victim and her husband hurling obscenities and lewd remarks at each other she had produced a utility knife and stabbed the victim in the bicep. The officers subsequently arrested the suspect, aged 43 and from North Hollywood and she was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. Bail was set at $30,000.
