Davis Teaches Kids Basketball, Life Skills:

Baron Davis went from Crossroads School to UCLA, then to the NBA, then to all-star status.

“He wants kids to have the same opportunities he had,” said Daryl Roper, who coached Davis at Crossroads.

So Davis is in his seventh year conducting the Rising Stars of America camp that was held at Santa Monica College last week.

More than 200 youngsters learned basketball fundamentals and life skills from Davis and his staff in the week-long, full-day program. The camp was for boys and girls in the fourth through 10th grades.

Davis emerged as an NBA player in New Orleans and has thrived the last two seasons since being traded to the Golden State Warriors.

In addition to conducting his camp Davis joined former Inglewood High star Paul Pierce, who recently signed a new three-year contract with the Boston Celtics, in taking over a summer basketball game that’s a huge fundraiser for the United Negro College Fund. The game was Magic Johnson’s project for 20 years.
