Update: 11:43 a.m.: the SMPD have confirmed this is not an active shooter situation.
The Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) is responding to reports of shots fired near the Third Street Promenade.
SMPD Officers were on the scene right before 11:30 a.m. near 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue in Downtown Santa Monica Friday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a security guard shot at a suspect, but the SMPD has not confirmed this yet.
“Reports of gunfire at the Santa Monica Promenade are accurate, but no one has been hurt and this is NOT an active shooter. This appears to have been a security guard shooting at a suspect for unknown reasons,” wrote LA Times reporter James Queally on Twitter.
