Summing up Brentwood’s 47-26 non-league football loss to Pasadena Poly Saturday, Oct. 7, Coach Patrick Brown said “different opponent, same result.”
Just as mistakes hurt Brentwood in a 45-14 loss to Paraclete the previous week, miscues were again a major factor, although Brown called Pasadena Poly the best team Brentwood has played and Paraclete an excellent opponent.
The Paraclete game was played on the road. The Pasadena Poly game was played at Brentwood.
“We were our own worst enemy again,” said Brown. “Errors put us in a huge hole. But I told our players afterward that hopefully the non-league games prepared us for the league.
Brentwood went 2-3 in the non-league portion of its schedule and will begin league play Saturday, Oct. 14 at Calvary Chapel. The game is scheduled for Clark Field in Lakewood at 7 p.m.
Pasadena Poly began the scoring on a 90-yard punt return. That play was followed by an interception that put the visitors in position to score again. Later, Brentwood fumbled after a 12-yard gain.
“Some errors were forced, others were due to lack of concentration,” Brown said.
Senior Mason Moss played the entire game at quarterback and sophomore Josh Amster concentrated on defense. However, Brown said he has decided to alternate the pair at quarterback on every play in the next game.
