New Roads Ends Another Loss Streak:

It’s been a streak-busting season for the New Roads girls’ volleyball team against Santa Monica opponents.

After ending a four-year losing streak to Crossroads, the New Roads girls defeated Lighthouse Christian last week for the first time in eight years.

The scores were 25-9, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-17, leaving New Roads with a 9-2 overall record, including 7-0 in the Harbor League.

Senior center Ana Ramirez had seven kills, six aces and four digs. Senior outside hitter Erika Alvarez had two kills, two aces, four digs and one block.

In a meeting of two teams who were undefeated in the Harbor League earlier in the week, New Roads came back from losing the first set to defeat Rolling Hills Prep, 23-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17.

Junior outside hitter Mary Lou Gonzalez had 14 kills, six aces and nine digs. Ana Ramirez contributed seven kills, two aces, four digs and a block, and Alvarez had four kills, three aces and eight digs.
