Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel to Turn Amber as Part of Nationwide COVID-19 Memorial

Pacific Park joins nationwide COVID-19 memorial Tuesday night

The Santa Monica Pier ferris wheel will light up in amber and feature messages of thanks and encouragement to front line medical responders as part of a nationwide COVID-19 memorial.

On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. EST, a ceremony in Washington D.C., will feature a lighting around the Lincoln Reflecting Pool to memorialize American lives lost to COVID-19. Cities and towns across the country have been invited to participate and to spread the word. In addition, Individuals nationwide will light candles in their windows in memory of loved ones lost to COVID-19.

Pacific Park and the City of Santa Monica will join other communities across the country by lighting the Pacific Wheel amber at 5:30 p.m. local time. The light program will also feature messages of thanks and encouragement to front line medical responders.

This weekend marks a grim milestone of the global COVID-19 pandemic as over 1 million Angelenos have contracted the illness.
