A search has been suspended for a woman last seen in the water near the Santa Monica pier Sunday night.
According to officials, a passerby told Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards Sunday around 8:45 p.m. that they had seen a woman in the water near the Santa Monica Pier clinging to the pilings.
A large-scale search ensued with the LA County lifeguard and Harbor Patrol divers attempting to locate the woman. Around 11:30 p.m. these responders were called off of the search as the U.S. Coast Guard took over using its own helicopter, an 87-foot patrol boat and a 25-foot boat.
At daybreak Monday, divers resume their search efforts along with responders from Santa Monica Police Department Harbor Patrol Baywatch Del Rey and the Coast Guard.
Around 9 a.m. Monday the search was suspended.
“The search has been suspended pending further information. Land based Lifeguard Units and Lifeguard Rescue Boats will continue periodic patrols,” LA County lifeguards tweeted.
