Ernie Andrews, December 23, 8/9:30pm

With a style that may recall Joe Williams, Philadelphia native Ernie Andrews began singing with his church choir as young lad. His early influences were Billy Eckstein and Al Hibbler, and by high school the impressive vocalist had already scored a few hits for the G&G label. Soon afterward, Ernie went on to spend a number of years cantillating with the Harry James Orchestra. Since then, he’s both toured and recorded extensively with a “who’s who” of artists. He was also featured prominently in the documentary Blues for Central Avenue.

Wednesday Night Poetry, Beyond Baroque, weekly, 8pm

Since 1969, Venice’s Beyond Baroque has provided a free workshop and open-reading program as a gathering place for writers to develop their voice, find support, build communities and experiment. On this night, as well as all Wednesday evenings, you’re invited to join a bunch of your soon-to-be-chums for a night of flava and learning, courtesy of the neighborhood and beyond. Be a part of a “Happening.” You know you want to. Bring copies of your work.
