12 Samohi Football Players Are All-League:

Although the Santa Monica High football team didn’t make the CIF playoffs this season, 12 Vikings have received all-Ocean League recognition.

Quarterback Ryan Katz, tackle Damon Middleton, running back Lewis Adeyemi, defensive back Cameron Collins and linebacker Max Monbouquette were named to the first team.

Second team choices were center Justin Williams, tackle Charlie Poland, receivers Geo Allen and John Dunn, defensive backs Herb Johnson and Rilwan El-Adeyemi and linebacker David Naylor.

Darius Banks, Culver City’s record-setting quarterback, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Culver City and Beverly Hills tied for the league championship. Santa Monica was fourth and had a 6-4 overall record, with wins in its final three games.

Banks and Katz, who will both return next season, have been considered future Division 1 quarterbacks since they opposed each other on the Samohi and Culver City ninth grade teams. Both have excelled the last two years on their respective varsity teams, and this season Banks led the state in touchdown passes and yardage.
