The Henry Mancini Institute (HMI) will close its doors on December 31.For 10 years, HMI has taught music to over 30,000 children in Los Angeles and related schools, awarded full scholarships to over 800 young musicians to further study music and performed yearly summer concerts free to the public. Says Ginny Mancini, President of the Board of Directors, and widow of the Pink Panther composer, “After ten incredible years of nurturing, mentoring and introducing hundreds of emerging young musicians to the world, our Board of Directors took a hard look at the future, and the ominous landscape of funding for the arts. The decision to close was difficult, yet realistic in assessing the rising costs and our commitment to maintain the level of excellence and integrity this organization was founded on.”
