The John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center has received a $6.5 million donation from Carolyn Dirks for the Dirks/Dougherty Prostrate Center.

Santa Monica native and Malibu High School graduate Alyce Belonis is one of 15 students in the US to receive the American Medical Association Foundation’s 2007 Leadership Award.  Belonis is currently in her second year of medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

 The Santa Monica Historical Society Museum has received a $100,000 donation from Bob and Louise Gabriel (the latter is the museum’s president and CEO), bringing the museum closer to its $5 million capital campaign goal. 

“I’ve always said that Santa Monica is the biggest ‘little city’ in the world with so much history,” said Bob. “How proud I am to support the museum’s preservation work, which has been ongoing since Santa Monica’s Centennial celebration in 1975. Our new state-of-the-art museum will showcase for the public the many wonderful treasures gathered together over the years.”

Kathleen Alcione of Santa Monica has received a $2,000 scholarship from the Women and Philanthropy program at California State University, Long Beach for re-entry students.

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has given a $1 million grant to create the Conrad N. Hilton Charitable Care Endowment Fund for underserved patients at Saint John’s Health Center.  Part of the grant will go towards finishing the Frances Hilton Endoscopy Center, located in the Howard Keck Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

“We worked with Saint John’s to fashion a gift that will complete its new center and establish an exciting new endowment for vital services for patients who do not have sufficient resources to meet their health needs,” said Steven M. Hilton, president of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
