The Knitters, May 18, 7:30pm

It’s a rarity that proponents of bare bones, no-nonsense alt-country music and fans of the early L.A. punk era have reason to unite. However, in this case, that’s exactly what one can expect. The L.A.- based Knitters will be moseying their way to The Getty Center as part of the “Friday Nights at the Getty” series. Originally formed as an offshoot of one of L.A.’s most influential punk bands, the Knitters consist of original X confreres Exene Cervenka, John Doe and D.J. Bonebreak. Former Blaster, Dave Alvin, and past Red Devil, Jonny Ray Bartel, round out this eclectic troupe of talented players.

Z Tribe, May 18, 9:30pm

Jimmy Z is one of the top harp players working today. He also blows a mean saxophone, and is referred to by blues queen Etta James as her “Hootchie Cootchie Man.” His musical services have been called upon by artists as varied as Dr. Dre, Barry White, Yes and Bon Jovi. On this evening, he’ll be supported by the exciting Z-Tribe, his spot-on blues-rock outfit.
