SMMUSD Seeks Middle School Athletic Coaches

Positions Are Available for Flag Football, Girls’ Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Esports, Track and Field, Soccer, Spring Volleyball and Lacrosse

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is actively seeking athletic coaches for the upcoming school year to guide and teach student-athletes at John Adams Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, and Santa Monica Alternative School House.

Coaching positions are available for various sports, including flag football, girls’ volleyball, cross country, basketball, esports, track and field, soccer, spring volleyball, and lacrosse. These after-school programs cater to students in grades 6-8 and run across different seasons: fall, winter, and spring.

The duties of the coaches will encompass skill development, coaching, and improving the conditioning of student-athletes.

Interested candidates should contact Jason Hurd, Athletic Coordinator for Santa Monica schools, via email at jhurd@smmusd.org or by phone at 424-209-8157. The application deadline is June 20, 2024.

The coaching roles require a time commitment of 8-10 hours per week after school, including practices, games, training, and meetings up to 3-4 days per week.

Coaches will be responsible for taking attendance, communicating with parents and the Athletic Coordinator about schedules and logistics, maintaining facilities and equipment, ensuring safety, and assisting with tryouts. They will also need to complete state-mandated coaching courses and adhere to CIF Blue Book rules.

To apply, candidates should prepare a resume and email it to jhurd@smmusd.org, indicating the sports and positions of interest in the email header. Two references with contact information are also required. Interviews will be scheduled during the week in time slots from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
