Brentwood Reaches League Title Game:

When Brentwood’s football team rolled to a 49-18 homecoming victory over Whittier Christian on Saturday, October 27 the Eagles qualified for an Alpha League showdown game against Maranatha.

Both teams brought 3-0 league records into their game, which was scheduled for Thursday night, November 1 at Maranatha, located in Sierra Madre.

Whittier Christian, the other league member hoping for a CIF playoff berth, has a 2-1 league record.

Brentwood jumped to a 21-0 lead over Whittier Christian and didn’t let up.

“We were outstanding in all phases,” said Coach Patrick Brown, “We didn’t practice Tuesday or Wednesday because of poor air quality due to the fires. But we used the time to study films and were able to practice Thursday and Friday. Our players were really ready.”

Whittier Christian had a defense designed to deal with Brentwood’s passing attack and held Eagles quarterback Mason Moss to four completions in 13 attempts. However, three of the completions were for touchdowns.

The scoring began on Moss’ 29-yard pass to Ben Oliva and the pair then hooked up for a 49-yard touchdown. A one-yard run by Matt Greenberg was Brentwood’s third touchdown and the Eagles had a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Josh Amster, who shared quarterback duties with Moss last season but is playing flanker now, caught a 56-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Just 56 seconds later, Oliva went 35 yards to a touchdown with an interception.

The lead became 42-18 on a 53-yard punt return by Oliva, and Brentwood’s final touchdown was scored by sophomore Ray Nicholson on a 16-yard interception return.

Nicholson, who isn’t a starter, also had an eight-yard scoring run that was called back because of a holding penalty.
