The Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) will host its 23rd Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration and Ritual on Saturday, Nov. 1, inviting the community to gather in remembrance of loved ones who have passed.
The free event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at SPARC’s Durón Gallery, 685 Venice Blvd., and will feature traditional altars, art, and performances celebrating the Mexican holiday that honors the dead through reflection and shared memory.
This year’s theme, “Desaparecidos,” will open as an accompanying exhibition running through Dec. 20. The show is dedicated to neighbors, friends, and family members who have disappeared or been detained by immigration authorities, and includes community-built altars and visual tributes.
SPARC, known for its long history of public and cultural art projects, said the annual celebration serves as both a cultural tradition and a communal act of remembrance.
The event is supported in part by grants from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, and Traci Kato-Kiriyama’s TRACTION Arts program.
