Caltrans Reschedules I-405 Weekend Closures, Adds Overnight Lane Reductions for Paving Work and Safety

Drivers Warned of Upcoming Overnight Closures for Road Repairs in Los Angeles

Lane and ramp closures planned for this weekend on Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass have been rescheduled, according to Caltrans District 7.

The previously announced weekend work between Getty Center Drive and Skirball Center Drive, originally set for Nov. 14–17, will now take place from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, as part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project. Caltrans confirmed there will be no extended closures this weekend.

SR-27 to close early Thursday: The section of SR-27 (Topanga Canyon Road) from Pacific Coast Highway to Grand View Drive will be closed to the public at 10 P.M. Thursday in anticipation of rainstorms Thursday night into the weekend.

Crews are monitoring and will reevaluate throughout the storm when it is safe to open. Caltrans will share daily updates. Travelers should plan for alternate routes and avoid driving in rainstorms, particularly through burn scar areas. Check quickmap.Dot.CA.Gov for current conditions.

In addition, overnight lane reductions will occur next week along the I-405 for paving and demolition work beginning Monday, Nov. 17, and continuing through Friday, Nov. 21, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.

  • Northbound I-405: Up to two lanes closed between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive
  • Southbound I-405: Up to three lanes closed between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard
  • Northbound I-405: One lane closed between Sepulveda Boulevard and Victory Boulevard
  • Burbank Boulevard on-ramps to both northbound and southbound I-405
  • U.S. 101 connectors to the northbound and southbound I-405

The $143.7 million pavement rehabilitation project covers the stretch of I-405 between Van Nuys and Westwood, aiming to extend the lifespan of the freeway, improve ride quality, and enhance safety and mobility along one of the nation’s busiest corridors.

Caltrans advises drivers to plan ahead, expect delays, and use alternate routes when possible. Nearby residents may experience noise, vibration, and dust during overnight work.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather or operational needs. For real-time traffic updates and closure information, visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
