St. Monica Boys Have 13 Wins:

The St. Monica boys’ basketball team has a 13-5 record and has gotten off to a 2-1 start in the Camino Real League.

 Coach Tony Depa’s Mariners defeated La Salle, 50-39, and Mary Star, 59-35, in league play.

 David Holguin, the Mariners’ season-long rebounding leader, had 18 against Mary Star.

 Some other St. Monica results were a 58-56 win over Malibu and a 53-43 loss to St. Paul.

 Ryan Zelig is the team’s scoring leader with 13 points per game, followed by Jonathon Azer with 10, and Ryan Capino with eight.

 In Western League girls play, Palisades defeated Venice, 52-49. Venice has a 2-2 league record.

 The Brentwood girls had only five players due to injuries and illness in a 68-23 non-league loss to Troy. Jasmine Duckworth contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds.
