Palisades Group Launches Storytelling Project for Families Who Lost Homes

Legacy Family Initiative aims to preserve multigenerational histories through oral accounts and a future library collection

The Palisades Recovery Coalition is launching the Legacy Family Initiative, a storytelling and preservation project for multigenerational families who lost homes, memories and mementos in the Palisades Fire.

The program, developed in partnership with the Trauma Resource Institute, will help families document and archive their personal histories. Participants will work with TRI counselors and coalition volunteers to salvage remaining items, reconstruct lost narratives and record stories that reflect the community’s heritage.

The collected accounts will form a permanent “Legacy Collection” to be displayed in the planned Palisades Library of the Future. Organizers say the effort honors both the grief of what was destroyed and the resilience that endures through family legacies.

A gathering for interested families is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the coalition’s headquarters, 15233 La Cruz Drive. RSVPs are required and can be submitted online.

The initiative targets families with deep roots in Pacific Palisades whose histories span generations. No prior experience is needed to participate.
