Dr. Dre sells longtime Malibu beachfront home on Carbon Beach for $16.5 million in off-market deal

The three-story property on “Billionaires’ Beach” spans about 8,800 square feet.

Music producer and entrepreneur Dr. Dre has sold his longtime Malibu beachfront home in an off-market transaction that closed last week for $16.5 million, as reported by Mansion Global.

The hip-hop pioneer, whose legal name is Andre Young, originally listed the Carbon Beach property for $20 million in November 2022 before removing it from the market in December 2023. The residence had also briefly been offered for sale more than a decade earlier, when it was listed in September 2011 for $11 million before being delisted in April 2012.

Property records show Young purchased the Malibu home in 2000 for $4.75 million.

The buyer is the founder and general partner of a Los Angeles-based home and apartment development firm. Representatives for the buyer’s company did not respond to requests for comment, and a representative for Young could not immediately be reached.

Located along Pacific Coast Highway on Malibu’s Carbon Beach, often referred to as “Billionaires’ Beach” for its concentration of high-end homes and prominent residents, the contemporary residence was built in 1993.

The three-story home spans about 8,800 square feet and includes six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, according to the listing.

Floor-to-ceiling windows line much of the property, offering expansive ocean views. The home also features multiple beach-facing terraces along with amenities including a gym, sauna and a recording studio.
