Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson says company won’t expand at the expense of standards.
In-N-Out Burger President Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson told Pepperdine University students that maintaining quality and staying grounded in personal values have guided her leadership of the family-owned company.
Speaking March 31 at the university’s President’s Speaker Series, Snyder-Ellingson said she prioritizes preserving the legacy of the chain founded by her grandparents over rapid expansion or operational shortcuts.
“We don’t want to compromise—we’re not going to do things the quicker, easier way if it’s not what’s best for our customers,” she said during a conversation moderated by university President Jim Gash.
Addressing a crowd of about 1,200 students, faculty and alumni at Firestone Fieldhouse, Snyder-Ellingson emphasized that the company’s growth strategy remains intentionally limited.
“I don’t see us being on the East Coast in my lifetime—we won’t compromise on quality just to expand,” she said.
Snyder-Ellingson also spoke about the role of faith in her leadership, describing it as central to how she navigates challenges and decision-making.
“There’s no struggle too big for God to redeem,” she said, encouraging students to seek purpose in their work and personal lives.
