African-Americans at the Beach

The City of Santa Monica recently installed a plaque at the site of what was once known as Inkwell Beach, the part of the beach where African-Americans swam and surfed. The Santa Monica Conservancy and Calvary Baptist Church are presenting a panel on the history of the beach, featuring historian Alison Rose Jefferson, documentary filmmakers Portia Scott-Hicks and Paul Richardson, and surfer Rhonda Harper, who spearheaded the installation of the plaque. 2pm, $10-$12, Wilford P.
