While Venice had already been identified as the starting location for the races, Tuesday’s announcement confirmed the finish line.
Olympic organizers have released new details about one of the marquee competitions of the 2028 Summer Games, confirming that the men’s and women’s road cycling races will begin at the Venice Beach Boardwalk and finish at Griffith Observatory.
The announcement from the LA28 Organizing Committee provides the first official look at the endpoints of the Olympic road race course, which will take cyclists from the Pacific coastline across Los Angeles and into the hills of Griffith Park.
The women’s and men’s road races are scheduled for July 22 and 23, 2028.
While Venice Beach had already been identified as the starting location for the races, Tuesday’s announcement confirmed Griffith Observatory as the finish line, creating a course that connects two of Los Angeles’ most recognizable landmarks.
LA28 officials said riders will traverse a mix of coastal, urban and hillside terrain during the competition.
The organizing committee also announced details for the Olympic road cycling time trial, which will be held July 19, 2028. That event will start near the Los Angeles Zoo and finish at Griffith Observatory, making Griffith Park the focal point for Olympic road cycling competitions.
The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 through July 30.
