Steve Choi Solo Exhibit Opens at ARCANE

Choi’s practice focuses on restoring a sense of life and relationality to objects amid feelings of alienation shaped by technology, capitalism and social fragmentation.

Artist Stevie Choi will open a solo exhibition exploring kitemaking, sculpture and themes of growth and transition at ARCANE Space on Friday.

Titled “Limit’s Supposed to Be the Sky,” the show runs from July 17 through August 16. It features Choi’s works in bamboo, hanji paper, string and found objects, including pieces such as “Shadow-casting Holes (flying)” and “Passing by (halmiggot).”

An opening reception took place on Friday, with a musical performance by Choi at 7:45 p.m.

Choi (they/she) works across sculpture, drawing and music. Their practice focuses on restoring a sense of life and relationality to objects amid feelings of alienation shaped by technology, capitalism and social fragmentation. Choi was the commissioned kite artist for Clockshop’s 2024 People’s Kite Festival and has led kitemaking workshops at LACMA, Frieze London and various community spaces. They hold a B.A. in art from UCLA.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
