Westside Softball Team Is SoCal’s Best:

Two pitchers from Santa Monica, Karli Rumburg and Madeline Kaplan, were instrumental in the Westside Pride winning the National Softball Association SoCal state championship on June 8.

 A 12-and under girls fast-pitch softball travel team, the Westside Pride won six straight games in Rialto, California, Included was a 6-1 title game win over Rialto.

 The Pride’s quarterfinal win was 8-6 in extra innings over the San Pedro Harbor Heat. In the semifinal the Pride defeated Santa Barbara, 6-3.In the tournament the Pride outscored their opponents, 43-14.

 Rumburg and Kaplan each had 10 hits and four RBI. Frankie Golick of Santa Monica also had four RBI.

 “Our emphasis on conditioning and practicing hard all year came through,” said manager Karl Rumburg. “We had a tough schedule playing back-to-back games both days.”

 The Westside Pride qualified for the NSA World Series in Reno beginning July 14.
