It Gets PhysicalTuesday, March 31. 10:40 p.m. Officers of The Santa Monica Police Department went to a location at the 2000 block of Olympic Boulevard to respond to a report of a domestic disturbance (row, tiff, fight etc.). The victim told the officers that she and her live-in “boyfriend” had began arguing earlier in the day (a common occurrence between lovers), but this argument had mutated into a physical altercation whereupon she claimed that her “boyfriend” had punched her several times (not a common occurrence between lovers). The cops promptly arrested the “boyfriend,” took him away, and later booked him for domestic violence. Three Men and a TruckThursday, April 2, 1:00 a.m. 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk. A patrolling officer saw three suspicious looking men standing next to an unoccupied City of Santa Monica Beach Maintenance truck. The officer presumably thought to himself, “Hmm, three men and a maintenance truck, I had better investigate.” He questioned the men and as a result discovered that one of them had some meth (crank) and a meth pipe (twizzle stick). He was therefore taken to the Santa Monica Jail, where the officer discovered a second twizzle stick and a number of bankcards that could well have been stolen. The man was later booked for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, bringing narcotic contraband into a jail, possession of stolen property, and, if that wasn’t enough, violation of probation.Forgot To RegisterFriday, April 3, 7:11 p.m. 2200 block of Virginia Avenue (Virginia Park). Officers who are assigned to patrol the Pico Neighborhood stopped and questioned a group of known gang members (bangas) and discovered that a certain male in the group was on probation (a surprise?). This particular “banga” claimed that he did not know the conditions of his probation so the officers called his probation officer via cell phone to get the low-down. The “prob” told the officers that the “banga” in question was clearly in violation of several of his probation conditions that included: 1) Failing to register as a gang member within ten days of his release from custody. 2) Associating with (other) known gang members. 3) Being in the Pico Neighborhood. He was arrested and booked for the above probation violations. Another One Who Forgot To RegisterFriday, April 3, 2:35 a.m. A sharp-eyed officer patrolling the 800 block of Olympic Boulevard spotted a vehicle with an expired registration, and so stopped the vehicle, spoke to the driver, and discovered the following: His license was suspended, he was illegally in possession of a baton, and he had a pepper spray in the car. He took the driver to jail where the officer unearthed some more information; the man had some pot and crank upon his person! He was booked for the following alleged crimes: Possession of a dangerous weapon (baton), possession of tear gas by a drug addict (not a good idea), possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and bringing drugs into a jail.
