Bail Not Granted To Santa Monica Homeless Man, 25, For Assaulting Girlfriend: Alert Police Blotter: The Batchelor?

A 25-year-old homeless man was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 2 on domestic violence charges after a drunken argument with his girlfriend escalated into a brutal assault.

At 11:38 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 1200 block of Fourth Street regarding a domestic violence assault that was in progress.

When the officers arrived they detained the suspect who was at the location. The officers also saw the victim who at that time was being treated by Santa Monica Fire Department personnel.

The officers investigated and discovered that the suspect (man) and the victim (woman) had been involved in an ongoing relationship, and on this day they had been out drinking (alcohol) since the early morning.

The victim told the officers (with substantiating statements from several witnesses) that she had become involved in an argument with her boyfriend, and during the course of this dispute, he had grabbed her and threw her to the ground, causing her head to smash against a concrete wall.

The victim had then attempted to escape, but he had prohibited this by punching her in the face with a clenched fist.

The officers had heard enough and they arrested this man for domestic violence and of course a violation of probation. Bail was not granted.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
