On Thursday, June 16, at 1:29 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Santa Monica Chrysler-Dodge Dealership, located at 3219 Santa Monica Blvd., in order to investigate a report of fraudulent activity.

Welcome Santa Monica Chamber’s New Board:

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce installed their new 2016-2017 board June 15, with an evening at host hotel Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows welcoming new and old members in celebration.

Chair of the Board Yesenia Monsour officially took them helm, sworn in by Santa Monica Mayor Tony Vazquez under the hotel’s historic Fig Tree.

SMMUSD Appoints Co-Interim Superintendents:

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) Board of Education approved the contracts of Christopher King, Ph.D. and Sylvia Rousseau, Ed.D. as co-interim superintendents at its June 29 regular board meeting. Both contracts are effective July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016, SMMUSD announced Wednesday evening.

New Pilot Program Kicks Off with a Renter Survey:

The City of Santa Monica is seeking input from residents who live in rent controlled units through a survey that is active now through July 18.

The survey is a tool for the City to learn about the affordable housing needs of the community, and to determine the magnitude of rent burden among rent-controlled households.

Mr. Santa Monica’s Healthy Outlook:

Nat Trives, who also goes by “Mr. Santa Monica,” has accomplished a lot in his 81 years – as a community advocate, who serves on many nonprofit boards, as a professor at Santa Monica College, and as a former mayor and police officer of Santa Monica. He also recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary – an impressive personal accomplishment.

Groups of regular Salvation Army volunteers, Morgan Stanley employees, and participants from the CLARE foundation alumni association all organized volunteer groups.

Feeding Our Homeless:

In response to Los Angeles’s escalating homelessness crisis, the Salvation Army organized a team of more than 50 volunteers to hand out prepared meals to Santa Monica’s homeless population this past Saturday.
