Chrysalis Celebrates New SM Center: and $1.6 million gift from Alan Long

On Wednesday, November 9, over 200 friends of Chrysalis, Los Angeles’ only independent non-profit organization dedicated to helping LA’s economically disadvantaged and homeless individuals through employment opportunities, celebrated the opening of its first permanent client service center located in Santa Monica.

The purchase of the new building was made possible by a $1.6 million donation from Alan Long, Southern California President of Sotheby’s International Realty and Chrysalis Board Member.

Located just two doors down from its former office, the new Chrysalis center doubles the organization’s capacity to serve clients and the community, and its bright client-centered design “reinforces its message of empowerment and self-development,” according to a spokesperson.

Among the guests at the opening were Los Angeles City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavky, Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor and City Councilman Richard Bloom.

Chrysalis is exclusively dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged and homeless individuals become self-sufficient through employment opportunities. Its three main service centers are located where homelessness and pockets of poverty are most pervasive: Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and the Pacoima area of the San Fernando Valley. The organization currently assists more than 2,200 individuals a year.Chrysalis’ philosophy is “a steady job is the single most important step in a person’s transition to long-term self- sufficiency.” For more information on Chrysalis visit www.changelives.org.
