A community workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight by Santa Monica’s Planning Commission in the Lincoln Middle School cafeteria which is located at 1501 California Avenue. This workshop will celebrate the completion of the Draft Land Use and Circulation Element (DLUCE) of the city’s General Plan by giving the community a glimpse of some of its key elements.
Significant items that will be presented tonight include strategies for neighborhood protection, a new transportation strategy that will improve the ability of individuals to move around the city, and how Santa Monica will provide the jobs and opportunities necessary to continue to thrive as a creative city.
The community has been giving input to the City of Santa Monica on how it should update its long-term land use, urban design, and transportation visions for the LUCE since 2004.
The Planning Commission and City Council have already conducted study sessions after the DLUCE was released in November 2009. They will soon both begin a more formal process that will culminate in the approval of the Final LUCE. That process will also include the approval of the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the LUCE. The LUCE’s FEIR is expected to be completed in June. Once both documents are approved, the city will begin the process of updating its zoning codes to reflect the Final LUCE’s vision.
