Correction and Apology…Sort of:

Sydney Pollack is a very busy man and one of Hollywood’s most admired filmmakers, as he’s responsible for some of the best films of the last four decades.

He’s produced over 40 films, directed 22 movies and a gang of TV programs, and appeared as an actor in 13 movies and 22 TV programs.

He’s also been nominated for three Best Director Oscars — for Out of Africa, Tootsie and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? – and won one, for Out of Africa.

We said last week that he’d won for Horses. In facr, he didn’t. John Schlesinger won that year for Midnight Cowboy.

It’s an obvious case of wishful thinking. We like Pollack, his work and his cinematic aspirations. Thus, while we regret misinforming our readers, we’re not really all that sorry for giving him another Oscar.Peggy Clifford, Editor
