Farmers’ Market Report:

Who: Elmer Lehman. Elmer is one of the original farmers at the opening day of the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers Market on July 15, 1981. Elmer has farmed all of this life and you can still find him at the Wednesday Market from June until October.

Where: 40 acres in Fresno County. Elmer’s father started farming on this same property over one hundred years ago. Today, Elmer still farms and lives on the same property where he was born.

What: Elmer grows apricots, peaches, eggplant, grapes, Hungarian peppers, and tomatoes all without sprays or pesticides. Thompson grapes are Elmer’s favorite. He leaves at 2 a.m. on Wednesday mornings and arrives at the Market with just enough time to take a nap before the Market starts. Elmer will turn 85 this summer.
