“I Am Santa Monica” Program to Train Ambassadors of City’s Tourism Industry

The interactive session focuses on hospitality, customer service, the city’s attractions, resources and tourism.

Santa Monica Travel & Tourism is offering a free workshop later this month designed to train local residents and workers to serve as ambassadors for the city’s visitor industry.

The program, called “I Am Santa Monica,” is an interactive session that focuses on hospitality and customer service while providing participants with information about the city’s attractions, resources and tourism economy.

The next workshop is scheduled for March 24 from 10 a.m. to noon in Santa Monica.

According to organizers, the program is intended to help employees, business owners and residents become more knowledgeable about the city so they can better assist visitors. The workshop includes a guided bus tour highlighting key destinations and attractions throughout Santa Monica.

Participants will learn facts about the city, transportation options, sustainability initiatives and local resources, including services related to homelessness. The training also aims to help attendees connect with the community where they work and identify volunteer opportunities.

Those who complete the workshop receive a certificate recognizing them as official Santa Monica Information Ambassadors, which organizers say can be added to resumes or professional profiles.

“The more helpful we are to visitors during their stay, the happier they will be while they are here,” organizers said in a statement, adding that satisfied visitors tend to spend more time and money in the destination.
