Julia Brownley, who is running for the 41st Assembly District seat currently held by Fran Pavley, has picked up some key endorsements. Stanley K. Sheinbaum and Betty W. Sheinbaum announced their backing of Julia Brownley. Mr. Sheinbaum is publisher of “New Perspectives Quarterly” and a former Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, while Mrs. Sheinbaum is an artist and gallery owner. Says Mr. Sheinbaum, “We have great confidence that Julia Brownley will continue the tradition of strong progressive leadership that we expect of representatives from the 41st Assembly District. Adds Mrs. Sheinbaum, “We need leaders who are not afraid to take a stand on controversial issues, to speak out against the war or to call for reductions in greenhouse gases, or to lead the effort to create a single-payer health care system. That is the kind of leadership we can expect of Julia Brownley.”The California Federation of Labor and the California National Organization for Women (California NOW) also endorsed Brownley. The Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley has also thrown its support behind Brownley. Says Chair Jeff Daar, “Julia comes from a true grass roots Democratic political tradition herself, a tradition that greatly values personal involvement with her community. She will be a champion of Clean Money and political reform, reinvestment in our schools, quality affordable health care for all and aggressive environmental commitments. We believe Julia will be an effective advocate for the progressive values shared by our members, the true grassroots of the Democratic Party.”
