Malibu-Lost Hills Deputies Use Gas To End Nine-Hour Standoff:

A nine-hour standoff at a recording studio in Calabasas ended peacefully early today with the suspect flushed out of the building by gas.

The suspect, a man believed to be in his 30s, was in custody and facing charges of threatening harm and brandishing a gun, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Trina Schrader said.

The armed suspect ordered everyone out of American Recording in the 22300 block of Mulholland Highway about 7:30 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Edward Sheridan of the sheriff’s Malibu-Lost Hills Station.

Deputies dispatched to the scene were told there had been an argument between two employees of the business and during the argument one of the men pulled out a gun, allegedly threatening the other employee, said Deputy Peter Gomez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

The victim was able to exit the location and call for help, Gomez said.

Negotiations with the suspect continued throughout the night, Schrader said.

Around 4:40 a.m., “we coaxed him,” he said.

“We introduced gas and he surrendered at that time,” Schrader said.

No deputies were injured during the incident, Schrader said.
