A man died in a hospital this morning after being shot several times in Hollywood, a crime witnessed by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer who helped arrest a suspect and an accomplice, police said.

The shooting occurred at Cahuenga Boulevard and Selma Avenue just after midnight, said Sgt. Chad Lewis of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Station.

“The victim was shot multiple times and transported to a hospital,” said Lewis. The man, believed between the ages of 50 and 60, was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 2 a.m.

The off-duty officer “witnessed the shooting and followed the suspects as the patrol unit was responding,” the sergeant said.

The suspect and an accomplice were taken into custody and a gun was recovered, Lewis said. The suspects were described as men in their late 20s.
