Maxine Waters To Speak in Venice:

One of the most outspoken members of Congress, Maxine Waters, will be the special guest speaker at the August 18th meeting of the West Los Angeles Democratic Club.

Adding to her many initiatives in Congress, Ms. Waters is now spearheading the “Out of Iraq” caucus. Her recent local teach-in/rally on the topic was attended by about 1,100 people.

Waters has gained a reputation as a fearless advocate for women, children, people of color and poor people, and, according to many political observers on both sides of the political spectrum, she is one of the most powerful women in American politics today.

Jim Aldinger and Ted Lieu, the two Democrats running for California’s 53rd District State Assembly Seat that became available after the untimely death of Assemblyman Mike Gordon, are also expected to attend the meeting.

The meeting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1020 Victoria Avenue (at Lincoln Boulevard one block north of Venice Boulevard) in Venice. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The West Los Angeles Democratic Club represents the 11th City Council District, from LAX and Playa del Rey on the south, stretching north through Westchester, Del Rey, Mar Vista, Venice, Palms, and Brentwood, as well as the unincorporated community of Marina del Rey.

It now has more than 600 general members and 2100 associate members.

Donations are requested at this event ($5 for members and $10 for non-members).
