Advisory covers areas near Santa Monica, Malibu and Marina del Rey; warnings lifted at Topanga Canyon Beach.
Los Angeles County public health officials on Feb. 27 advised against swimming, surfing or playing in ocean water at seven beaches due to elevated bacterial levels that exceed state health standards.
The warnings affect the following locations, extending 100 yards up and down the coast from each point unless otherwise noted:
– Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach, near Will Rogers Tower 18
– Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica
– Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach, near Santa Monica South Tower 20
– Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach
– Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach
– Ashland Avenue storm drain at Santa Monica State Beach
– Mothers Beach in Marina del Rey (entire swim area)
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said recent water samples showed bacterial counts high enough to increase the risk of illness.
Officials lifted a previous warning at Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu after recent samples met state standards.
