Police Respond To Report Of Man Choking Dog On Wilshire Boulevard: APB: He Was Not Choking A Dog.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 11:23 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a report that a man was choking a dog in the 300 block of Wilshire Boulevard so they went to investigate.

When the officers arrived they took the dog away from this man because the man did not have any evidence to prove that the dog was his.

The officers soon discovered the dog had been reported as missing, found the real owners of the dog and made sure that the dog was safely returned to them.

The officers investigated and discovered that there was no tangible evidence that supported the report of animal strangulation, but they did discover that the man had been lying to them about who he was, and that he also was in possession of marijuana.

This 37-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged with providing false information, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and an outstanding warrant. His bail was set at $5,756.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
