The Los Angeles County Fire Department, in coordination with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, expects to burn vegetation near Santa Maria Road and Dirt Mulholland Road.
Fire officials plan to conduct a prescribed burn Friday in the Santa Monica Mountains to reduce wildfire risk and improve ecosystem health.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department, in coordination with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, expects to burn vegetation near Santa Maria Road and Dirt Mulholland Road from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather and environmental conditions permitting.
The operation is part of ongoing fuel-management efforts. Crews will use a “mosaic burning” strategy, burning one plot at a time to create a patchwork of burned and unburned areas. A similar prescribed burn was conducted in the Topanga area in April.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and MRCA Fire Division personnel will assist with traffic control and public safety. Fire crews will remain on site throughout the operation.
Smoke may be visible in the area and could linger. Officials advised residents sensitive to smoke — including children, older adults and people with respiratory conditions — to limit outdoor activity if smoke is present.
