The Santa Monica High boys’ basketball team finished third in the El Segundo Tournament. The Vikings lost in the semifinals, 61-58 to Serra after being outscored 21-10 to finish the game. Will Freedman was Samohi’s high scorer with 22 points. However, Samohi came back with a 64-50 win over El Segundo in the third place game. Serra won the championship by defeating Loyola in the championship game. Crossroads won its first game by defeating LA Wilson, 67-47 at the Redondo Pacific Shores Tournament. The Roadrunners have four one-sided losses. New Roads has a 5-2 record following a 58-43 loss to Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hills Tournament, a 64-54 win over University and a 58-37 win over Murphy. Palos Verdes won the tournament by defeating Beverly Hills in the championship game Brentwood has a 3-4 record. The Eagles defeated Manual Arts, 46-34 at the Beverly Hills Tournament, lost to Beverly Hills, 54-36, and then defeated Morningside, 78-59. Andreas Schreiber leads Brentwood in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (9.6). Maleek Royster is the team’s second-leading scorer (8.7). The Venice boys are 2-2, including a 92-49 win over Van Nuys and a 60-57 win over Muir in the Rose City Tournament in Pasadena. Noah Gottlieb is Venice’s leading scorer (16.3), followed by Ryan Flynn (13.3) and Calvin Morgan (12.8). Flynn is the leading rebounder (7.0). The Palisades boys are 5-3. Folowing a 40-38 loss to Beverly Hills in the Beverly Hills Tournament there were wins over Manual Arts (60-47) and Hamilton (65-42). The Santa Monica High girls have a 5-1 record. After winning the Moorpark Tournament, the Vikings opened the Marlborough Tournament with a 48-45 victory over Brentwood before losing to Marlborough, 69-57. Also in girls’ play, St. Monica has a 1-1 record following a 68-37 loss to West Torrance and Crossroads is 0-6. There was a 36-32 loss to Archer in the Buckley Tournament and three defeats in the Golden Valley Tournament, to Highland (66-18), Golden Valley (64-31) and LA Baptist (61-36). The Venice girls are 4-2. They began the season with four straight wins, including a 66-16 rout of Banning, which were followed by losses to San Gabriel (53-49) and Narbonne (42-41) in the South Torrance Tournament. The Gondoliers’ leading scorer is Shannon Nakamine (13,4), followed by Ivory Blockman (13.0) and Lea Endo (11.4). Jewell Morris leads in rebounding with 9.4. The Palisades girls have a 3-3 record. Most recently there was a 39-20 win over Washington and a 62-54 loss at Crenshaw. Megan Coulter is the leading scorer (11.6), followed by Jaega Haralambus (10.7).
