Defending Ocean League baseball champion Santa Monica High opened the 2006 season by defeating host Malibu High, 3-1, on Saturday.In the only other prep game on the Westside, Brentwood opened with a 12-3 victory over Windward.In softball, the St. Monica Tournament began with several games.St. Monica defeated Leuzinger 4-2, Glendale Hoover defeated Crossroads 9-2 and New Roads split two games. The Jaguars had an 8-0 victory over Beverly Hills but lost to Whitney, 3-2.In non-tournament non-league games Malibu split a doubleheader with Campbell Hall, winning 6-5 and losing 6-4 and Venice defeated King Drew, 10-2.
