The Shore Hotel, a eco-conscious spot that provides ocean views near Santa Monica Pier, took home the grand prize in the 2023 Sustainability Quality Awards.

It is the second straight year the local hotel has been recognized by the awards. Last year, it received the award for “Excellence in Economic Development and Stewardship of the Environment” by SQA. It also received the SQA Grand Prize in 2015 and “Excellence in Social Responsibility and Stewardship of the Environment” in 2014.

“Shore is a LEED gold hotel and was designed with a focus on sustainability. Its carbon footprint is 43% smaller than the average hotel,” Jon Farzam, Shore Hotel’s CEO, said. “Our green operations have furthered that commitment and we are continuously adopting new technologies to ensure Shore stays at the forefront of sustainable businesses.”

Shore has also received awards from the California Green Business Network and the U.S. Green Building Council, according to its website.

Starting in 1995, SQA highlights efforts of Santa Monica businesses having success in sustainable economic development, social responsibility and stewardship of the environment. Among other marketing benefits, winners get recognition by City Council members and community stakeholders at the SQA Annual Luncheon Ceremony.

“Santa Monica businesses continue to demonstrate that economic vitality, social equity, and environmental protection are mutually beneficial and core components of a thriving local business community,” City of Santa Monica’s Chief Sustainability Officer Shannon Parry said in a release.
