A 47-year-old Venice man was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 23, shortly after breaking into a Santa Monica garage.
At 11 pm an officer of the Santa Monica Police Department was requested to go to the 2300 block of Second St. in order to investigate a suspicious person report.
When the officer arrived he spoke with the victims who said that they had been sitting in their living room when their security alarm had sounded.
A motion sensor in the garage had triggered the alarm and when the male victim went to the garage to investigate he had noticed that the garage window screen was hanging off its mountings.
The victim continued to tell the officers that as he was investigating the hanging screen when he suddenly heard his son yell out that he had seen a man climbing over the fence.
The victim rushed to confront the suspect who denied that he had attempted to enter the garage through the window.
He added that the suspect then mounted a bicycle that had been leaning against a fence and rode away.
Shortly afterwards other responding officers apprehended this suspect and after he had been positively identified by the victim he was arrested for burglary. Bail for this man was set at $50,000.
