What’s Hot: Santa Monica Playhouse Presents ‘Bananas! – A Day In The Life Of Josephine Baker’:

Santa Monica Playhouse presents 'Bananas! – A Day in the Life of Josephine Baker' this Saturday

Santa Monica Playhouse this weekend presents a one-woman cabaret based on the fascinating life of Josephine Baker written and performed by award-winning actress Sloan Robinson accompanied by pianist Aeros Pierce.

Performances will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 pm and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 pm.

Real life legend Josephine Baker overcame the limitations imposed by the color of her skin to become one of the world’s most versatile entertainers, performing on stage, screen and recordings.

She was decorated for her undercover work for the French Resistance during World War II.

She was a civil rights activist – refusing to perform for segregated audiences and integrated the Las Vegas nightclubs.

“Bananas!” combines drama, comedy, and music to recount Baker’s rise from the slums of East St. Louis to the grand stages of Europe.

Admission is $20. Santa Monica Playhouse is located at 1211 4th Street, Santa Monica.
