St. Monica won the Mary Star Cliff Classic baseball tournament last week. In the semifinals, St. Monica built a 12-0 lead, then held on to defeat Mary Star, 12-9. The game ended when Mary Star had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning but couldn’t get another hit. St. Monica went on to whip St. Bernard, 12-1 on the tournament’s final day. St. Monica and Mary Star both finished with 3-1 tournament records. St. Monica was declared the winner on the basis of its win over Mary Star in their head-to-head meeting.In its first tournament game, St. Monica lost to Cathedral. The Mariners then won three games.
